Scar Tissue Release MSTR®
Scar Tissue
Why it Shouldn’t be Ignored
Have you got any scars?
Surgical interventions around the world continue to rise.
Scars from keyhole surgery, mole removal, stiches, c section, mastectomy, breast augmentation or reduction, major surgery, minor surgery, joint reconstruction or replacement, a car or a motorbike accident, a sports injury……..there are endless causes of physical scars. Every scar represents an event in your life, and these events may have been traumatic.
For example, emergency life-threatening surgery, war wounds, assault, accidents or any other non-emergency surgery.
Scar tissue is often neglected. The physical, and often emotional effects of scar tissue is not well understood and often overlooked. Effective treatment of scars is probably one of the most underappreciated skills of a manual therapist.
MSTR® Research is finding that when the physical attributes of the scar change (texture, sensation) using MSTR® then the emotional and psychological effects of the scar may also improve, ie, the integration and normalisation of the tissue seems to have a positive effect on the psychological and emotional wellbeing of the client.
The Physical Effects of Scar Tissue
The effects of post-surgical scars on the human body are widespread and may create dysfunction in areas remote from the site of the scar.
The body forms scar tissue as a natural response to trauma when the skin is lacerated or punctured either by accident or purposefully ie. surgery.
Collagen being laid down during the repair process results in a thickened, fibrous mass which can impede proper circulation of blood, congests lymph flow, and can even impact our range of motion.
Additionally, the severing of delicate nerve tissue often results in numbness of not only the scar but the adjacent, surrounding tissue. As the scar is fibrous and non-elastic it will have a dragging and pulling effect on bio-mechanical function of all physiological systems particularly the fascial membrane covering muscles, organs and glands. The effect of scar tissue in the physical body is just the beginning.
The Emotional and Psychological Effects of Scar Tissue
Some scars (especially those resulting from trauma) can be particularly distressing for some people. They may not like their scar. They may not want to even touch it. Their scar represents the event that created that scar.
The scar may bring up feelings of fear, anger, hate, disgust, self-image problems and so forth. Even feelings of worthlessness can be associated with that scar.
One of the most outstanding things that MSTR® treatment can provide is an eradication of those long-held feelings. How does that work?
It seems that as the scar itself normalises (as feelings return to the scar, fibrous tissue softens and it begins to feel 'natural' again) then those negative emotions also start to recede. We have many examples and experiences where all those feelings simply start to disappear as the scar feels to integrate and become a part of the 'whole' again.
MSTR® Scar Tissue Release is about more than the scar itself. It supports the body and nervous system to recognise that healing is possible, allowing tissue, movement, and long-held emotions to soften and integrate. Every scar carries a story, and with gentle, respectful treatment, that story can change. If you feel ready to explore how may support your body and wellbeing, you’re warmly invited to book an appointment.

Stress, Pain, Poor Sleep – How MSTR® and Bowen helped me
“Bowen with Fiona has been one of the most transformational decisions that I have ever made for my body and my life. The gentle treatment of the body and fascia have helped me immensely from regaining function to my breathing patterns, improving sleep, relieving pain and stress, radically improving range of motion and most importantly bringing to mind previous injuries and trauma stored in my body so that I could acknowledge and release them. The best part about my treatments are that they are completely driven by my body and it’s need to heal and restore rather that a therapist ‘telling me what I need’ or giving me a ‘to do list’ or even myself forcing ‘improvement’. As an A type personality this method of assisting my body to heal as it wishes has been a highly functional and vital learning curve. The combination of MSTR® and Bowen that Fiona offers have truly helped my body heal in a way that has allowed me to reconcile my body with the burdens of my life and restore lost function. As an ex professional dancer I appreciate that more than words can express. My five year old son has also benefitted immensely from Fiona’s treatment in much the same way I have. I highly recommend Fiona, Bowen and scar release to anyone as the best non invasive body lead effective treatment.”

Post Major Surgery for Scoliosis - Bowen and MSTR®
“I had major back surgery for scoliosis when I was 15 and even though it's fixed I still had lots of pain. The muscles and nerves still trying to understand how to live with the new back, so my mom looked for ways that could ease the pain. My mom mentioned Fiona and said that she did Bowen and Scar Tissue Release (MSTR®). I had no idea what it was at first, but Fiona explained that it was about loosening the tension in the muscles and relaxing the body. The first session was the most soothing experience I could ever have. Over the following few weeks I felt like a new person! The pain became hardy noticeable! Even movement was far more of a breeze. The scar tissue went from rough to smooth. Besides the Bowen and MSTR® I think that Fiona is one of the kindest people I know, she's always on point.”

MSTR® – post major surgery
“In March 2021 I had major abdominal surgery, which left me with a large reverse L- shaped scar from sternum to belly button, and belly button to my right side. I used a mix of argon and lavender oil on my scar to help it heal, and although I had no problems with the wound, it was rather firm in places, and had a small depression in the lower part. I saw Fiona a few months after my surgery for MSTR® treatment. I was amazed at how the gentle movements immediately softened the scar tissue. After 3 visits, the scar was completely soft and the small depression smoothed out. It has remained this way ever since. I could not recommend this treatment highly enough for anyone following surgery, looking to obtain a soft, supple scar.” Diane
